Getting started

What is Aleeva?

Aleeva is a verified Discord app for Guild Wars 2 communities. She links Guild Wars 2 accounts to Discord, so players can pull up their account without leaving chat, and communities can automate verification, roles, events and more. What is Aleeva? gives the overview, and Features lists everything she can do.

How do I add Aleeva to my server?

Invite her with the button on Quick start. The invitation requests exactly the permissions she needs to work as expected.

When she joins, she posts a short welcome message in your server's default channel and points you at the command. Everything else is configured from there, so nothing is switched on before you ask for it.

Bringing over a large community? Roll out Aleeva on a large community server does the same thing in the opposite order: invite her with almost no permissions, close every command at the door, then grant access one feature at a time.

How do I see what Aleeva can do?

Type / in any channel Aleeva can read and Discord lists her commands, or run for the help message. The full list with descriptions is in the commands reference.

Who is allowed to use /settings?

The server owner, anyone with Discord's Administrator permission, and any member who holds the Aleeva Administrator permission. The command arrives as a direct message, so allow direct messages from server members.

To let others help manage Aleeva, open , go to Permissions, and assign Aleeva Administrator to a role. Treat it like Discord's own Administrator permission: anyone holding it can change every feature.

How much does Aleeva cost?

Aleeva's core features are completely free for everyone, and that will not change. Aleeva Premium is an optional subscription that unlocks extra features for one server of your choice and funds Aleeva's development.

Guild Wars 2 API keys

What can Aleeva do with my API key?

Only read. The Guild Wars 2 API does not allow any changes to your account, so Aleeva can look up your characters, wallet, progression and guild membership, and nothing more. Add a Guild Wars 2 API key walks you through creating one.

Why does Aleeva ask for so many API permissions?

A full key (account, builds, characters, inventories, wallet, progression, unlocks and wvw) makes every Aleeva command usable. Permissions cannot be added to an existing key later, which is why they are all requested up front.

If you only want to get verified on a server, use a light key instead: it needs just account and wvw, and it works for account, guild and WvW verification. No other feature accepts it.

Guild Wars 2 API key permissions explains what each one is used for.

Do I have to add my key on every server?

No. Your key is tied to your Discord account, not to a server, so it works everywhere Aleeva is. You can link up to three Guild Wars 2 accounts, see them with , and pick which one commands use with .

How do I remove my key?

Run . Aleeva drops the stored data within 10 minutes, and any roles she manages for you are removed at the next refresh.

I added my key, but nothing happened

Run on the server where you are missing roles. It re-runs every role and name mapping right away instead of waiting for the next scheduled refresh, and it only applies to the server you use it in, so run it on each one. An admin can do the same for you with .

If that does not help, the troubleshooting section of the API key guide covers the rest: keys marked invalid, light keys, the wrong account being active, and every error message Aleeva can reply with.

Privacy and permissions

Does Aleeva read all my chats?

She reads messages in the channels where Discord lets her, which is what makes her able to react to commands, process arcdps logs and catch scam links. You control that per channel: remove Read Messages or View Channel for the Aleeva role and she never sees what is posted there.

Scam Protection only covers channels Aleeva can see

Hiding a channel from Aleeva also hides it from Scam Protection, silently. Busy public channels are exactly where scams land, so leave View Channel on there and simply never grant Send Messages if you do not want her talking.

What does Aleeva store about my Guild Wars 2 account?

Aleeva is a Discord Verified App, which Discord requires of any app on more than 100 servers and which commits her to protecting user privacy and security.

She keeps the account information her name and role mapping features need, holds it for 10 minutes, and then refreshes it from the Guild Wars 2 API. When you remove an API key, that data goes within 10 minutes. The full details are in the privacy policy.

Why does Aleeva need so many Discord permissions?

Every permission on the invitation belongs to a feature, and Discord permissions maps each one to the features that depend on it.

You do not have to grant them all at once. Untick what you do not need on the invite screen and add permissions to the Aleeva role later as you switch features on. Be aware that a feature whose permission is missing does not announce itself, it simply does not work.

Roles and verification

Why do my members lose their roles after 15 minutes?

That is Guild Rank Mapping doing its job. With it enabled, Aleeva owns every mapped role: she adds it when a member holds the matching in-game rank and removes it when she cannot find them in your guild. Members without a stored API key look like non-members to her, so make sure everyone has run .

Why does Aleeva not assign the roles I picked?

Two things to check, in this order:

  1. Run to confirm Aleeva has every permission she needs.
  2. Open Server Settings, Roles, and make sure every role Aleeva manages sits below her own role. Discord only lets her assign roles beneath her.

How quickly do role changes show up?

Aleeva checks for in-game rank changes every 15 minutes, so give it a moment. Nobody has to wait for that refresh:

  • A member re-checks themselves with .
  • You re-check someone else with , or with the Verify button on , which is shown when your server has active role mappings.

Both only apply to the server you run them in.

Events

Aleeva says I need to set up event permissions

Event Management runs on two of Aleeva's own permissions, which you assign under , Permissions:

  • Aleeva Events Leader lets a member create and manage events.
  • Aleeva Events Admin additionally opens the server-wide event settings.

Link both. They can point at the same role if you want. On a larger server it is worth keeping them separate and handing the leader permission only to the people who genuinely run your raids.

Why does Aleeva set the wrong date and time on an event?

Two things decide what you get:

  • Your input format. Type the date and time in the format set in your , which defaults to yyyy.MM.dd HH:mm. You can also use relative values such as 1h 30m, a plain HH:mm, or @time to paste in Discord's time picker.
  • The server's timezone. The preview shows the time already converted to the timezone of the server the event is created in.

Time input covers every accepted pattern.

Why does Aleeva not find my logs after an event?

Aleeva links the reports that belong to the event leader's Guild Wars 2 account within the event's time window, so a missing summary usually means one of two things:

  • The leader has no API key stored with Aleeva, so she cannot tell which reports are theirs.
  • The boss kill time falls outside the event, before its start or after its end.

See DPS report integration for how the collection works.

Messages and languages

Why do I not get any messages from Aleeva?

Several commands, among them, reply in a direct message. Discord blocks those unless you allow direct messages from server members, which you set per server or globally under Settings, Privacy & Safety.

Why do I see empty messages from Aleeva?

Aleeva answers with embeds. If they render as blank messages, open your Discord Settings, go to Appearance, Messages, and switch Show embeds and link previews back on.

Can Aleeva answer in my language?

Yes. Aleeva speaks English, German, French and Russian. Set the server language under , Aleeva Settings, or your own under , Settings. Servers can also let every member get answers in their own language. See Multilanguage Support.

Premium and early access

What do I get for Premium?

Extended Event Management, member exports, extended WvW alliance verification, deep link scanning, Guild Wars 2 news summaries in more languages, , early access to new features and fast official support. Aleeva Premium lists it all.

Premium is a Discord subscription, so you buy it through Discord itself with in the server you want to upgrade. It applies to that one server.

What is early access and can I have it?

Early access means using new features on your server before they are released publicly, and it comes with Aleeva Premium. Some features go through a closed beta with a small group first, before they open up more widely.

Because these features are still being built, they can change or behave differently from the released version. If you want to help test them, tell us on the support server.

Still stuck?

Check first: if the Guild Wars 2 or Discord API is having trouble, several of Aleeva's features feel broken while it lasts. Everything else, we are happy to look at.
